Julia Ratcliffe; as one half of The Veggie Deli team, I love food and live to eat! I have always been encouraged to try new taste sensations and have happy childhood memories of delights such as polony sausages, saveloy dips, pontefract cakes, stotties and kabanos (not always the healthiest options!).
Yet, as a child I didn't enjoy the best of health, I suffered with glandular fever and had reccuring bouts of tonsilitis that led to my tonsills being removed.
After enjoying my time at University and entering the corporate
workplace, my wellbeing started to deteriorate. In my twenties I had to
have my gallbladder removed and was then diagnosed with irritable bowel
syndrome which was extremely debilitating to my daily activites. Left
frustrated by the support available from the orthodox medical world I
decided to look for alternative solutions.
From my own personal research and talking with like minded people I soon realised that there was a direct link between what I ate and how I felt.
This led me to enrolling on a number of courses at The College of Naturopathic Medicine in London for a five year adventure learning from experts in the field.
As a result of my training, I am now a fully qualified Naturopath, Nutritional Therapist and Iridologist. I am a member of the Association of Naturopathic Practitioners, The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy and The Federation of Nutritional Practitioners.
I am intesterested in nutrition, acupuncture, TCM, homeopathy, tissue salts, celloids and herbs as part of my general wellbeing.
I now eat a predominantly vegan diet and have been fascinated by the benefits of different diet systems such as macrobiotics, food combining, alkaline balance and living raw foods.
I believe it is important to incorporate wisdom from many different disciplines to find the right approach for the individual as we're all unique.
As you can see elsewhere on this website, our interest in vegetarian and vegan food has resulted in the founding of The Veggie Deli, which produces handmade vegetarian food for sale at local farmers' markets.
Do please come and see us at a local market or contact us using the Contact page.
Enjoy your food and good health!
